Rod mill is a key piece of equipment for grinding crushed materials. It is comprised of feed end, discharge end, rotary drum, girth gear, and gear motor. The gear motor includes a driving gear, through which the rotating energy of the electric motor is transferred to the drum. There is also an electric control unit to ensure the safe, reliable operation of the power transmission system.
This grinder uses a number of steel rods within the rotating drum to impart grinding action. It is more effective at wet milling action than at dry milling. Common ores that can be processed by this mill include cement, silicate, refractory material, new building material, fertilizer, ferrous metal, nonferrous metal, and glass ceramics.
The girth gear is installed around the external circumference of the drum. The drum rolls along with the girth gear. This driven gear meshes with a small driving gear installed around the output shaft of the gear motor which provides the initial rotating energy to the drum.
The material is fed into the primary grinding chamber by a screw conveyor assembly. The chamber is lined with liner plates of either wedge-shaped or corrugated. As the chamber rotates, the feed material and steel rods are lifted up as far as the centrifugal force can take them. Then the rod fall back down on the material, thereby crushing it to a smaller size. When the coarse grinding is done, the feed material is sent to the secondary grinding chamber via the partition wall. The inner surface of the secondary chamber is covered with smooth liner plates. Friction between steel rods breaks down the material to finer particles. After the fine grinding is completed, the product is discharged through the grate plate.
